Johnny Cash's historic and just-released 'At The Carousel Ballroom' live album will be made available as part of a limited-edition Cash box set next month, featuring the 28-song performance on all-analog double vinyl alongside exclusive artwork, special LP design and rare collectibles from the era. Arriving on January 14, the box set release will offer a comprehensive multimedia look at this recently-unearthed Johnny Cash live performance; captured in the heart of hippie San Francisco by counterculture icon and "Wall Of Sound" pioneer Owsley "Bear" Stanley. Recorded in April 1968, only a few days before the release of At Folsom Prison and just months before the arrival of the equally-revered At San Quentin, 'At The Carousel Ballroom' serves as a third essential - and wholly unique - live document from Cash's legend-making late 60s comeback.

Released by BMG and the Owsley Stanley Foundation, the limited-edition box set for Bear's Sonic Journals: Johnny Cash, At The Carousel Ballroom April 24, 1968 will include:

* The 28-song collection released on exclusive psychedelic colored vinyl

* A retro re-print of the "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" comic book

* Reproduction of the original 1968 concert poster from Steve Catron in his legendary signature style

* 12-page booklet with new essays giving context to the release from Bob Weir, John Carter Cash, Dave Schools and more.

* New original artwork by 3-time Grammy-winner Susan Archie

* Audiophile, all-analog production newly mastered from the vault tapes by Owsley’s hand-picked engineer Paul Stubblebine

At The Carousel Ballroom, April 24 1968" erhältlich.

„A revelation...Bear Stanley enhances the intimacy of the concert experience in a most unusual and highly impactful fashion." - Salon

„Stanley gives it a character unique from Folsom and San Quentin...the album creates a sensation of the listener being placed at center stage." - Rolling Stone

„A doozy of a show...it sounds spectacular...the music envelops you." - Garden & Gun

„Brilliant...this one from Cash is particularly special...gives the listener the feeling that they’re right in the middle of it all." - San Francisco Chronicle

„Cash is at the very height of his performance powers...Stanley's recording is well-mixed, with healthy doses of audience sound that don’t distract from the star attraction." - Consequence

„This setup was perfect...it’s very easy to suspend your disbelief and aurally recreate the on-stage arrangement...this is a truly great-sounding recording!" - Copper Magazine

„A fully immersive listening experience. this recording puts the listener in the middle of the room alongside the hootin' and hollerin' crowd of hippies." - Qobuz

"Something truly special...we are not only introduced to Johnny Cash in a completely different light but also taken into the extraordinary mind and innovation of Owsley Stanley." - Grateful Web

Sie umfasst darüber hinaus bereits Stanleys Live-Aufnahmen von The Allman Brothers BandTim BuckleyCommander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen Doc & Merle Watson und viele weiteren.

QUOTES

“A masterpiece. Dad gave what I believe to be one of the most intimate and connected

shows I have ever heard.”

–JOHN CARTER CASH

“I don’t think there are any live recordings of Johnny that weren’t originally intended to be an

album. So to be able to stumble across such a live recording during such a golden era for

him, and find that it was recorded in such a dynamic way, is incredible. It’s an opportunity

to show Johnny in a new light. When John Carter Cash heard the first fifteen seconds of this

recording, he recognized it as something significant. It has a three-dimensional, dynamic

quality that a lot of live music from that era does not have.”

–JOSH MATAS, brand manager of the Johnny Cash Trust

“When you hear this, you feel like you’re on the stage with Johnny and his band. That’s the

kind of clarity that my father was able to achieve with his recordings. And this was one of the

recordings that he had put a star next to, and said, ‘This is an important journal entry, and this

needs to be advanced into the world so people can hear it.’”

–STARFINDER STANLEY, son of Owsley Stanley

“My hope is that this album will be viewed as the third essential chapter to the Johnny Cash

live story in 1968, the missing piece between Folsom and San Quentin. Sonically,

performance-wise, repertoire, historical significance, all the elements are there to give it

that importance.”

–HAWK SEMINS, executive producer at the Owsley Stanley Foundation
